After the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD, the now destroyed city of Pompeii remained buried and forgotten over the years. To bring it back to light, in the 18th century began excavations that gradually led to the discovery of fabulous villas with frescoes, an amphitheater which has demonstrated the prosperity of this city in the past. The excavation works are still not finished, and still to this day , we continue to discover treasures of the past.
Mount Vesuvius is an active explosive volcano (in a state of quiescence since 1944), located on the eastern side of the province of Naples, in the territory of the homonymous national park established in 1995.
Vesuvius dominates all the "Gulf of Naples" and is reachable , up to 1,000, by bus; from this altitude, climb up to the crater, with the authorized mountain guides.
